The term symbiosis basically refers to any interaction of two different organisms. In a narrower sense, it is defined as a relationship in which both partners benefit (mutualism). The foundation of coral reefs is a symbiotic relationship between single-celled algae and corals. Coral Reefs are among the most diverse and densely populated ecosystems in the world. The constant competitive fight between species has led to a broad variety of survival strategies and different types of symbiotic relationships.
